I believe they served a utilitarian purpose and this is why their popularity spread throughout the world for thousands of years. When viewed from a stand point of arched trajectory. Catapults and powerful bows would have launched deadly weapons perhaps with flammable bitumen resins to create a deadly force that warranted such effort. Like later fortress with toothed buttresses from which to launch retaliatory artillery from relative safety. The dot waterways all along ancient trade routes. They were also navigation and time keeping devices. It was a brilliant design. Their form was related to function and this was the cause of their wide spread use across space and time. Hi Brian

Truly, I am not attached to one theory or the other. I’m just the messenger here. Although we attached the human transportation theory to the film, if it can be shown without doubt that this cannot have been the case, we will just have to live with the fact that we made an error.

I am not an archaeologist or academic of any kind – nor have I made a great study of the subject so like so many laymen I rely on that which filters down to me via the media or that which I find on the web. Is it possible that the ‘human transportation’ advocates have made a better stab at PR? I know that human beings generally prefer a more ‘romantic’ solution to enigmas such as this and maybe I fall into that trap. However, there are clearly impassioned arguments on both sides and as an outsider, I can only assume that each side has sound reason to believe what they believe – given that they are not idiots in the first place.

This site does not have a large amount of traffic but if you would like to write a post or can suggest an extant article from ‘Stonehenge Thoughts’ to in go here then you are very welcome.

Hi folks

Nice site!! You seem to think that the discovery of Pont Saeson as one of the source sites for the Stonehenge bluestones somehow confirms the human transport theory. How come? It blows the theory out of the water — with more than 30 different rock types now confirmed for the “bluestone assemblage” at Stonehenge, there is only one explanation that makes sense — they are glacial erratics. I wonder how life wud hve life been 34,000 years ago in the very same place.
Excellent article with unknown facts. Probably the only one i read which has a history of about 34000 years. good one!

I live on a smallholding in snowdonia i often have to move boulders, some bluestone size, often I can not or can not be bothered using the tractor.I use a couple of old scafold pipes and grease (poles and animal fat would do)old pipe or fence post to lever them up or move them round and a cheap ratchet puller o.k. not neolithic but i’m on my own, rolling, especialy on even slight slopes is good if you keep momentum ,over 20yards I use tractor,but near here three 10′stones were pulled by horse, probably a mile for gate posts, easy realy.I went last week to the blue stone quarry ,preseli,the sea is miles away, even i’m impressed !!

Superb dvd and well filmed and presented, all the more interesting as I have previously visited quite a few of the sites shown. One interesting point might be that there is a standing stone in the basement of The Libra Centre in Penmaenmawr that may align with the The Druid’s circle above. Also I am a practised dowser and use this in healing and found the energetic feel of the stone within Bry Celli Ddu was one of the most powerful I have ever felt. I have also visited a lot of the sites with the same ethos as the film makers to simply marvel at the way they have been made and what their purpose was in a practical sense. I believe also the Neolithic and Bronze cultures were far more sophiscated than they have been portrayed, so too their beliefs.
